Morningside College will host a mock trial scrimmage with rounds at 9:30 a.m and 1:30 p.m on Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave.
Schools that will be participating include Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa; Central College, Pella, Iowa; Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.; University of South Dakota, Vermillion; and Morningside College. This year’s scrimmage participants will take on the case of a driver who is charged with murder and DUI.
The event is free and open to the public. Rules prohibit speaking with team members once the judges walk in the room. You are free to visit with the students once the ballots are out of the room at the end of the trial.
The Morningside College Mock Trial Team is led by educational coaches Lillian Lopez, associate professor of history and political science, and Kitty Green, instructor of history, and attorney coach Tara Vonnahme from the Vonnahme Law firm in Sioux City.
