The 2012 edition of Kiosk, Morningside College’s art and literary magazine, recognizes student works of writing, art, and photography that were selected for publication and a series of cash prizes.
In the literature category, winners were students Matthew Ponder of Sioux City, first place; Michelle Kuester of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, second place; Chase Shanafelt of Sioux City, third place; and Kelci Teut of Hinton, Iowa, editor’s choice.
Winners in the art category included students Micki DeWitt of Rapids City, Ill., first place; Caitlin Casey of Emerson, Neb., second place; Amy Augspurger of West Des Moines, Iowa, third place; Misty Johansen of Trondheim, Norway, editor’s choice; and Wyeth Lynch, a Morningside alum from Sioux Falls, S.D., honorable mention.
Student Marcie Ponder served as head editor. The literary judge was George Bilgere, an award-winning poet. Art judges were Darren Maurer, a nationally-known oil painter; and Todd Behrens, curator at the Sioux City Art Center. Kiosk advisors include Steve Coyne, professor of English; John Kolbo, instructor of art; and Dolie Thompson, visiting instructor of art.
Kiosk, which is edited and designed by Morningside students, has been published by the college’s English and art departments since 1938.
