Morningside College conferred 285 bachelor’s degrees and 162 Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees during its 114th spring commencement exercises held Saturday, May 12.
In addition to the spring graduates, degrees were conferred upon August and December 2011 graduates, as well as students expected to graduate in August 2012. Morningside awarded honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees to Lin Benchun, former president of Hwa Nan Women’s College in Fuzhou, China; and the Hon. Jack K. Mandel, chairman of the board for the Nicholas Education Foundation in Santa Ana, Calif., and a retired Orange County (California) Superior Court judge.
Jack R. Hill, associate professor of psychology at Morningside, received the 2012 Lucille and Charles Wert Faculty Award for excellence in teaching. The award recognizes the faculty member judged by his or her peers to best exemplify the ideas of the academic teaching profession at Morningside. Hill joined Morningside in 1990. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology from Manchester College, Indiana; and a master’s degree and doctorate in counseling psychology from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
