The Leo Kucinski Academy of Music (LKAM) at Morningside College will be holding auditions for the 2008-2009 Youth Orchestras program on Tuesday, June 3, and Wednesday, June 4, in the MacCollin Classroom Building of Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Avenue.
The Youth Orchestras Program includes the Youth Symphony, for the most advanced musicians, the Philharmonia, for middle school, high school, and advanced elementary school musicians, and the Symphonette, for beginning and intermediate violin, viola, cello, and bass players. Ensembles practice each Monday evening and perform two concerts during the academic year.
Audition participants should be prepared to perform a solo, two scales, and will be asked to sight-read music appropriate to the ensemble in which they will be placed. Auditions will be scheduled in 10-minute time slots between 2 and 5 p.m. or between 6 and 8 p.m.
Need-based scholarships are available to those who qualify. To schedule an audition time or to request more information, contact Jill Wilson, Director of LKAM, at (712) 274-5357, or by e-mail at email@example.com.
LKAM opened in the fall of 2004 and focuses on private instruction, monthly workshops, and performance classes for student musicians from beginner to high school. Through a partnership between the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and Morningside College, the academy also directs the symphony's three youth orchestras and an Early String Program for beginning string players ages 4 and up. Students of the academy come from Sioux City and surrounding communities in Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
