The Morningside College Music Department is taking registrations for the Morningside Summer Music Institute (MSMI), slated for Sunday, June 17, through Saturday, June 23, on the college campus.
The MSMI is designed for string, woodwind, brass, and percussion middle school students who have completed grades six, seven, or eight.
The program includes private lessons and masterclasses well as opportunities to perform in large and small ensembles. Students will take classes in music technique and music technology on subjects such as improv, sight reading, conducting, Alexander Technique, body movement, and more. The week’s activities will conclude with a final concert performance on Saturday, June 23.
Instructors for the MSMI include faculty from Morningside College and the Leo Kucinski Academy of Music as well as professional players and teachers from the area.
Cost for the program is $150 per student, which includes private lessons, ensembles, classes, and other activities. Cost for residential program participants is $350 per student, which includes private lessons, ensembles, classes, activities, shared room accomodations on the Morningside College campus, and all meals Sunday evening through Saturday afternoon.
Deadline for registration is May 15 and a $50 deposit is required. Registrations are available by calling the LKAM office at (712) 274-5357 or by e-mailing Jill Wilson, director of the LKAM.
