The Phillips Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., announced that Morningside College junior Nicole Cleveland, daughter of Carl and Marla Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, was one of the “Top 100” college undergraduates to receive a merit-based scholarship for the academic year 2007-2008 under its Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program. Cleveland’s one-time scholarship amount is $1,000.

scholarships to undergraduates who demonstrate exceptional achievements as campus leader-activists on behalf of the cause of freedom, American values, and constitutional principles.
Cleveland is majoring in political science and mass communication at Morningside and is a 2004 graduate of Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. She is a student advocate for Morningside’s Student Government, serves as secretary of the Morningside Civic Union, and is a member of Morningside’s College Republicans and the Mock Trial Team. She serves as the news director for KMSC-FM, the campus radio station, and has been active in the Morningside Activities Council, the American Legion, the Woodbury County Republicans, and human rights and woman rights groups.
The Phillips Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit organization founded in 1990 to advance Constitutional principles, a democratic society, and a vibrant free enterprise system. In addition to the Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship Program, the foundation administers an annual journalism fellowship program that provides grants to working print journalists early in their careers. The foundation will distribute a record $303,500 in merit-based scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year under its Ronald Reagan College Leaders Scholarship program.
