Filmmaker Mark Volkers will present his documentary “The Fourth World” at 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, in the Yockey Room of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Ave.
“The Fourth World” takes the viewer inside the slums in three countries --Guatemala, the Phillipines, and Kenya-- to meet individuals who live in the slums. The film aims to bring understanding to the 'why' of slums, and foreshadow what's going to happen if the world ignores this social issue of the one billion people who live in slums.
Volkers, a digital media production instructor at Dordt College, has won over 20 national and international awards for his documentary work. He has filmed in more than 20 countries over the past 15 years and also has many years’ experience serving missionary work in Africa.
The showing of “The Fourth World” is sponsored by Sustainability at Morningside College, the college’s committee on environmental sustainability. The event is free and open to the public.
