The Morningside College Music Department will present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
Selections will range from gospel hymns such as “He Never Failed Me Yet” arranged by Keith Christopher to Renaissance pieces like “Exultate Justi in Domino” by Ludovico da Viadana.
Groups performing in the concert include the Morningside College Choir, Singing Men of Morningside, Bel Canto and Eclectix. Tim Watson, director of choral activities at Morningside, directs all groups except for Bel Canto, which is directed by Jill Wilson, assistant professor of music.
The Morningside College Choir is an auditioned choir of approximately 40 students. Annual tours have taken the choir across the United States and to famed concert halls and cathedrals around the world. The choir will perform in Italy in May.
The Singing Men of Morningside is an all-male chorus consisting of students from a variety of majors and disciplines on the Morningside campus.
Bel Canto is a women’s choir. It traveled to West Des Moines to perform at the Collegiate Women’s Choir Festival on Feb. 26.
Eclectix is a highly selective performing group that sings an “eclectic mix” of musical styles. Jazz, pop, show tunes, and a cappella arrangements form its core repertoire.
