The Morningside College Department of Theatre and Dance will present its spring children’s musical, “Rumpelstiltskin,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Ave.
In addition, there will be special weekday performances for several hundred area preschool and grade school children.
In this traditional fairy tale, the Miller is so proud of her daughter's spinning ability that she boldly tells everyone that her daughter can spin straw into gold. The King overhears and decides to keep the Miller's Maid for himself. Locked in a stone room, she despairs until a little, mysterious man appears and strikes a bargain she cannot refuse.
Cast members include Mandy Suing of Sioux City as the Troubadour; Abbie Atkinson of Algona, Iowa, as the Miller; Tazalea Scott of Westerville, Neb., as the Miller’s Maid; Elijah Wolf of Denison, Iowa, as the King; Samantha Dailey of Sioux City as the Queen; Alex Quinlain of Sioux City as the Prince; and Courtney Ruff of Council Bluffs, Iowa, as Rumpelstiltskin.
The show is directed by Bette Skewis-Arnett, with musical direction by Steve Lundberg. Maddie Mardesen of Elliott, Iowa, is serving as assistant director. Other members of the crew include Melissa Richter of Rock Valley, Iowa, as stage manager; Haleigh Pigott of Sioux City as backstage manager; and Aly McKinley of Sioux City and Alex Heldenbrand of Latimer, Iowa, as backstage run crew.
