More than 200 Morningside College students will present results from about 130 independent or classroom research projects when Morningside holds its ninth annual Palmer Student Research Symposium on Wednesday, April 18, in Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Ave., and Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave.

The symposium is free and open to the public.

The Palmer Student Research Symposium opens at 7:45 a.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room of the Olsen Student Center with remarks from Dr. William Deeds, Morningside’s vice president of academic affairs and dean.

Throughout the day students will share research results through oral, panel or poster presentations. The student research projects represent almost every academic department on campus, from biology and psychology to theatre and art.

Dr. Neal Iverson, professor and chair of the Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, will deliver the symposium’s keynote speech at 12:45 p.m. in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center. Iverson’s talk, “Slip-Sliding Away: Glaciers in a Warming World,” will focus on connections between glaciers and the climate.

The Palmer Student Research Symposium is coordinated by students Samantha McCarville, Karena Danner, Jedidiah McCoy, Nancy Waterstraat, Emily Culver, Stephaney Eckhart, Felicia Reimann, Nicole Van Heek and Megan Deichmann. Symposium faculty advisors are Jackie Barber, associate professor of nursing education, and Kim Christopherson, assistant professor of psychology.

The Palmer Student Research Symposium is supported by an endowed gift from the Palmer family in honor of Edward C. and William E. Palmer.
