Two Morningside College students capture first-place award at speech meet

Morningside College students Sarah Bartlett, a sophomore art education major from Norwalk, Iowa, and Ashley Marks, a sophomore English major from Panora, Iowa, received a first-place award in the duo category at a speech and debate tournament held recently at South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.

Bartlett and Marks presented a dramatic reading of the short play “Anything for You” by Cathy Celesia. The Morningside students competed against teams from five other colleges and universities to capture the first-place prize in the duo category.

Morningside College was one of 12 colleges and universities located in the Midwest that participated in the tournament.  The Morningside team is coached by Leslie Werden, assistant professor of English and director of first year studies.
