Students of Leo Kucinski Academy of Music to give recitals

Wind and percussion students from the Leo Kucinski Academy of Music will hold a recital night Tuesday, April 10, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Avenue. The recitals are free and open to the public.

More than 20 academy students will perform recitals throughout the evening. Instructors for the students include Ron Smith for percussion; Cliff Towner for trumpet; Judy Walker for flute; Jay O’Leary for clarinet and bassoon; Roxie Nothdurft for euphonium; and Morningside sophomore Megan Parrish for trombone.

The Leo Kucinski Academy of Music opened in the fall of 2004 and focuses on private instruction, monthly workshops, and performance classes for student musicians from beginner to high school. Through a partnership between the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and Morningside College, the academy also directs the symphony’s three youth orchestras and an Early String Program for beginning string players ages four and up. Students of the academy come from Sioux City and surrounding communities in Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
