Iron Chef-Morningside announces winners

Team "Dimmitt Minions" was the 2007 winner of the second annual "Iron Chef-Morningside" compeition, held on Monday, Feb. 26, in the Main Dining Hall of the Olsen Student Center.

Team members include Jeffrey Bruning, junior from Geneva, Neb.; Derek Nolan, sophomore from Hawarden, Iowa; and Victoria Reed, senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., and Cara Sonksen, a senior from Curlew, Iowa.

The “Dimmitt Minions” were one of three teams of students who battled to see who could turn the secret ingredient of crab into an appetizer, entrée, and dessert and be named “Iron Chef of Morningside.” Dishes were judged on taste, presentation, and overall creativity. The winning dishes consisted of crab rangoon, crab leg with drawn butter and rice, and a chocolate crab sauce over fruit. The event was sponsored by Morningside’s Resident Housing Association and Sodexho Food Services.

Judging the event was Morningside College President John Reynders, Robin Reynders, Terri Curry, vice president of student services, and Dr. William Deeds, vice president of academic affairs and dean of the college.
