International student banquet to be held at Morningside College

Now in its 25th year, the Morningside College International Students Association (ISA) will hold its annual International Student Banquet on Saturday, March 31, at 6 p.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Avenue.

The banquet will feature a variety of ethnic foods prepared by Morningside international students from countries such as Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Albania, Germany, and Northern Ireland. Shiran Nathaniel, chef for Sodexho, the campus food service, will also prepare a special dish from his native country of Sri Lanka.

The event will also include a short slide show as well as vocal and instrumental performances by international students, some of whom will be dressed in traditional attire.

“This banquet has traditionally been a way for the international students to show the campus and community the diversity present on the Morningside campus and to give them a taste of the world in which we grew up,” said Veronica Vazquez, a junior from Dension, Iowa, and president of ISA.

Admission to the event is $10 for adults, $5 for students with ID, $3 for children ages 5-12, and free of charge for children under five. Tickets will be available prior to the event from several Morningside College international students or by contacting Dr. Lillian Lopez, associate professor of history and political science and faculty advisor for ISA at Morningside, at (712) 274-5225.
