Hip-hop poet Desdamona to perform at Morningside College

Spoken word poet, hip-hop artist, and Iowa native Desdamona will perform at Morningside College on Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the UPS Auditorium of the Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Avenue.


The free event is sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS) and the Sioux City Readings Series. The public is invited to attend.


Desdamona has distinquished herself with her potent poetry and hip-hop delivery. She has performed at slam poetry events and other venues across the country including the legendary Green Mill in Chicago, the Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City, and the National Poetry Slam competition. She's been a member of the 2000 SlamMN! poetry slam team and The Poet Tree, a spoken word and music collective, and was one of four female poets who performed throughout California on the 2002 “Bustin' Out” tour.

Desdamona was winner of Honolulu's Slam Championship in 2004 and is a three-time recipient of the Minnesota Music Award for Best Spoken Word Artist. She has performed her poetry on the syndicated television talk show “Jenny Jones” and has been featured on several compact disc (CD) compilations. She has recorded three of her own CDs including “Desdamona: Live at First Avenue,” “Resilience,” and her first full-length CD titled “The Ledge,” released in 2005 by Zlink Entertainment, Inc.
