Morningside College junior Luke Sorensen of Dakota Dunes, S.D., has had a paper accepted for presentation at the 2006 Upper Midwest Regional Meeting of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) to be held March 31 through April 1, at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
The paper “Virgin Mary and Sophia: Two Sources of Female Divinity in Christianity” addresses the need for a divine, female presence in Christianity and is the result of work completed during the fall 2005 semester at Morningside. The presentation will be included as part of the undergraduate research session “Topics in Scripture and Its Interpretation.”
Sorensen is majoring in religious studies at Morningside.
The AAR is a professional association dedicated to promoting the academic study of religion in all its dimensions. SBL’s mission is to foster biblical scholarship. The Upper Midwest Region consists of members of AAR and SBL who reside in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin in the United States and Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Saskatchewan in Canada.
