Morningside College senior Michael Drury to exhibit oil paintings

“MY,” a senior thesis art exhibit by Morningside College senior Michael Drury, is on display through March 15 at Eppley Art Gallery, 3625 Garretson Avenue. An artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, March 2, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

“MY” features sixteen large-scale, oil paintings completed by Drury during the fall 2005 semester. (below, "Momma's Boy")

Drury’s work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions including the Sioux City Art Center’s Public Mural Project in 2002, the Iowa Biennial Collegiate Exhibition in Mason City, Iowa, in 2003, and a solo exhibit at Morningside’s Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center in 2003. He has been the recipient of several awards including Morningside’s Outstanding Freshman and Outstanding Sophomore Art Awards in 2003 and 2004, respectively, and the Marion Rocklin Shapiro Memorial Scholarship in Art in 2004.

As president of the Morningside College Art Club, Drury helped organize community service art projects including permanent displays of murals at area nursing homes and the Jackson Recovery Center, as well as trips to explore various art galleries, museums, and graduate schools in Chicago, Ill., and New York City.
