Emily Evans, daughter of Jeffrey and Michelle Evans of Glenwood, Iowa, received the Intercollegiate All-American Award for her portrayal of a witness in the American Mock Trial Association’s National Tournament held March 11-13, in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Evans is a member of the Morningside College Mock Trial Team. She is a senior at Morningside and a 2002 graduate of Glenwood High School.
Morningside’s Mock Trial Team competed in the national tournament against DePaul University of Chicago, Ill., Emory University of Atlanta, Ga., Gonzaga University of Spokane, Wash., and Washburn University of Topeka, Kan.
Faculty advisor for the Mock Trial Team is Dr. Lillian Lopez, associate professor of history and political science. Lawyer-coaches for the team are Alan E. Fredregill and Daniel B. Shuck, partners in the law firm of Heidman, Redmond, Fredregill, Patterson, Plaza, Dykstra, and Prahl, LLP in Sioux City.
The undergraduate mock trial program was first organized in 1985 at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. Its purpose is to give undergraduate students an opportunity to learn first hand about the work of trial attorneys, understand the judicial system, develop critical thinking, and enhance communication skills.
