Dr. Stephen Coyne, professor of English at Morningside College, is one of 30 faculty members selected from across the nation to participate in the Slave Narratives History Seminar at Yale University.
The seminar will examine the history of writing about the slave experience by slaves and former slaves through the analysis of autobiographies, biographies and fiction. This seminar is being presented by the Council of Independent Colleges with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the United Negro College Fund.
“Dr. Coyne is an outstanding senior faculty member at Morningside College and a productive writer,” said Dr. William Deeds, vice president for academic affairs at Morningside College. “He has a long-standing commitment to teaching African American literature and is well informed about this subject.”
Coyne has been with Morningside for more than 20 years. He teaches a variety of creative writing and American literature classes.
