Morningside to present Holiday Pops Concert with the Sioux City Symphony

Morningside College will present a Holiday Pops Concert with the Sioux City Symphony at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, June 30, in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center, 3625 Garretson Avenue, on the college’s campus.

The Sioux City Symphony will celebrate the 4th of July holiday with a patriotic, outdoor summer concert that will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display.

The concert will include patriotic music by American composers John Williams, Aaron Copland and John Philip Sousa; a tribute to military veterans and active service personnel; and a handful of timeless classics from the Broadway musicals such as “Oklahoma” and “The Music Man.” The symphony will be conducted by Music Director Ryan Haskins.

The audience can relax on benches or bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the concert on the lawn in front of the performance center. In the event of rain, the concert will move into Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave., on the Morningside campus.

The Betty Ling Tsang Summer Fine Arts Series is named for the late Betty Ling Tsang, a 1940 Morningside College music graduate. It is designed to bring free, quality music and theatre performances to residents of the Sioux City area.

Other events scheduled for this summer include “Cinderella” on July 20 and 21 and “Fiddler on the Roof” (concert version) on Aug. 10 and 11. All performances are free and open to the public.
