Morningside College recently presented its new Excellence in Leadership Award to two students, recognizing overall growth and leadership during their time in college.
Erin Bohlmann of Denison, Iowa, and Jessica Boschen of Newman Grove, Neb., received the award. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the college and community, and also challenges students to reflect on leadership and growth experiences while at Morningside.
To be considered for the award, students had to submit an application listing volunteer and leadership activities and responding to three reflective statements. They had to be juniors or seniors in college, and they had to meet cumulative grade point average requirements.
Bohlmann is a senior majoring in elementary education. She will graduate after student teaching in the fall. She hopes to teach and coach at a Catholic school near the Denison/Carroll area where her family lives and her younger sister attends high school. Bohlmann said she tries to emulate a saying by Mother Teresa: “Do small things with great love.”
Boschen is a junior from Newman Grove, Neb., working toward a major in biology and minors in Spanish, political science and religious studies. She is a leader in several campus organizations, and she volunteers regularly at Longfellow Elementary School and Center for Siouxland. Boschen will be doing a summer internship with the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.
