Morningside College fundraising campaign collects $45.2 million

Morningside College has announced completion of the most successful fundraising campaign in the college’s 115-year history, collecting a total of more than $45.2 million.

Morningside President John Reynders said the college’s “This is Our Moment” campaign, which was launched in 2002 and ended on May 31, 2009, exceeded its goal of $30 million.

“Nearly 7,200 donors from all 50 states have been remarkably generous in their support of Morningside,” Reynders said. “As a result, we reached our $30 million goal after only five years, and we went on to raise an additional $15 million during the campaign’s final three years.”

During the fundraising effort, Morningside received 13 individual gifts of $1 million or more. The largest single gift was $2.6 million. More than 50 percent of Morningside’s alumni with an undergraduate degree made contributions to the campaign.

According to Reynders, the college earmarked approximately $20 million of the total raised for annual scholarships and the endowment fund. Another $25 million went to three main categories of facility improvements on the college’s campus: student gathering spaces, residence life and athletic facilities.

From 2003 through 2008, Morningside completed a series of construction and renovation projects that included three new apartment-style residence halls; a pedestrian mall that contains an outdoor performance center, fountain and pergola; a new softball complex; library renovations that also added a first-floor coffee shop; extensive remodeling of the main dining hall and a community room, both located in the college’s student center; and renovations to the football stadium and the gymnasium.

Last year, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) presented Morningside College with the CASE Award for Educational Fundraising. Morningside was the only school in Iowa among the 49 schools from across the nation that CASE recognized for overall performance in educational fundraising programs.
