Morningside College presents “My Way – A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1, in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center, 3625 Garretson Avenue, on the college’s campus.
The free performances are part of Morningside’s Betty Ling Tsang Summer Fine Arts Series. “My Way – A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” features a vocal quartet and jazz combo from the Des Moines, Iowa, area, paying tribute to the music Frank Sinatra made famous. In the event of rain, the performances will move to Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Avenue, on the Morningside campus
Randy Peters, artistic director for the Betty Ling Tsang Summer Fine Arts Series, said “My Way” is a musical revue with over 50 songs that Sinatra recorded.
“You won’t see a group of actors impersonating Frank Sinatra” Peters explained. “Four vocalists – two men and two women – celebrate Sinatra’s mystique and some of the greatest music of the 20th century.”
“My Way – A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” was conceived by David Grapes, professor of theatre and director of the School of Theatre Arts and Dance at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and Todd Olson, producing artistic director for American Stage Company in St. Petersburg, Fla. Piano and vocal arrangements are by Vince di Mura,
The final performance for the 2009 Betty Ling Tsang Summer Fine Arts Series is “Side by Side by Sondheim” on August 14 and 15. All performances are free and open to the public.
