Kari Hansen, a sophomore at Morningside College, was one of 10 students in the nation to be awarded the top Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship this year from the National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta.
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first-year college and university students.
Hansen was chosen to receive Alpha Lambda Delta’s $3,000 Trow scholarship because of her academic excellence, dedication to service, and leadership in the local chapter, said Dr. Marty Knepper, an advisor of the chapter at Morningside College.
“Each of the 250 Alpha Lambda Delta chapters in the country can nominate only one, two, or three sophomore applicants, depending on the size of the college or university,” Knepper said. “Some large university chapters have over 1,000 sophomores from whom to select a candidate. We are very proud that Kari Hansen ranked among the top of the 90 Trow nominees.”
Hansen is a 2005 graduate of Sioux City East High School and the daughter of Keith and Kim Hansen of Sioux City. She is a double major in elementary education and special education.
