New appointments and a former employee returns in academic affairs

Mary Leida

Morningside College announces the new appointments of two current staff members and the return of a former employee in academic affairs.

Receiving new appointments are Dr. Mary Leida as dean of advising and associate dean of students and Dr. Steven Nimmo as full-time associate dean for academic affairs. In addition, Andy Heiser has returned to Morningside as executive director of information services and dean of the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center.

Leida came to Morningside in 1987 as an assistant professor of biology and became professor and chair of the biology department in 1989. She continued teaching biology when she was promoted to part-time associate dean of academic affairs in 1999 and part-time dean for advising in 2002. Leida holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Lutheran College and a master’s degree and doctorate from Oklahoma State University.

Andy Heiser

Nimmo joined Morningside’s faculty in 1988 and has served as professor and chair of mathematical sciences. He most recently was professor of mathematical sciences and part-time associate dean for academic affairs. Nimmo holds a bachelor’s degree from Monmouth College and a master’s degree and doctorate from Iowa State University.

Heiser served as Morningside’s educational technologist from 2001-04. In his new position, he will oversee information technology, educational technology, the notebook computer program, library services, academic support services, and media services. He has earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and a master’s degree and post-graduate certification from the University of British Columbia.
