Students who have been nominated for a Morningside College Celebration of Excellence Scholarship are invited to attend one of four scholarship weekends the college will host.
Scholarship weekend dates, which are Fridays and Saturdays, include: Jan. 20-21, Feb. 3-4, Feb. 24-25, and March 16-17. Scholarship weekends are open to prospective students who have been accepted for admission and meet the scholarship eligibility requirements.
Each weekend features social events, panel discussions, interviews and auditions or evaluations with faculty, an organization and activities fair, a scholar recognition luncheon and optional financial aid appointments and campus tours.
"Our scholarship weekends are a great opportunity for prospective students and their families to get a realistic look at life at Morningside College,” said Stephanie Peters, director of admissions.
After the scholarship weekends, students are awarded scholarships that include President's Scholarship Awards of up to $50,000 ($12,500 each year for four years), Dean's Scholarship Awards of up to $30,000 ($7,500 each year for four years), Talent Achievement Awards of up to $16,000 ($4,000 each year for four years), and Mustang Co-Curricular Awards of up to $12,000 ($3,000 each year for four years).
Jon Hoaglund, a Morningside freshman from Carroll, Iowa, attended a scholarship weekend last year and interviewed for an academic scholarship. He said the scholarship he was awarded that weekend made Morningside more affordable.
“My education here is pretty inexpensive compared to what it would be otherwise,” Hoaglund said. “So if there’s any chance that you could get a scholarship, there’s no reason not to come to a scholarship weekend.”
