Two high school Quiz Bowl teams tape a contest in the Morningside College TV studio for later broadcast on KCAU-TV in Sioux City.

Sixteen high school teams to compete in Morningside College Quiz Bowl Tournament broadcast on KCAU-TV

 

Quiz Bowl teams from 16 high schools in Iowa and Nebraska will compete for championship honors in the Morningside College Quiz Bowl Tournament that will be broadcast Sundays on KCAU-TV in Sioux City beginning Feb. 6 at 11 a.m.

The 15 weeks of broadcast contests will culminate with a championship game scheduled to air at 11 a.m. on May 22. The first weekly broadcast on Feb. 6 features Quiz Bowl teams from Maple Valley and Anthon-Oto High School in Mapleton, Iowa, and Ridge View High School in Holstein, Iowa.

Sixteen schools won their way to the televised rounds after competing Jan. 15 on the Morningside College campus in a preliminary tournament that involved Quiz Bowl teams from 22 high schools. Other Quiz Bowl teams that have qualified for the broadcast competitions and the scheduled first-round broadcast dates are: Estherville Lincoln Central and Unity Christian – Feb. 13; Sioux City North and Logan-Magnolia – Feb. 20;Le Mars and Spirit Lake – Feb. 27; Norfolk and Sioux City East – March 13; Sioux City West and Westwood – March 20; Sergeant Bluff-Luton and MOC-Floyd Valley – March 27; Wisner-Pilger and West Point-Beemer – April 3.

Each 30-minute Quiz Bowl broadcast on KCAU-TV will feature two teams vying for points by correctly answering questions that range over the entire spectrum of a high school curriculum and current events. Julie Eickhoff of McCook Lake, S.D., is serving as the on-air host and moderator for the broadcast competitions. Eickhoff, who is a licensed real estate broker with Pro-Link Realty in Sioux City, also has worked in education, banking and broadcasting in the Sioux City area.

Winning teams from the eight weeks of first-round competitions will move on to play in four weeks of quarter-final contests. Two weeks of semi-final competition lead to the championship game on May 22.

All of the Quiz Bowl contests are taped in television studios on the Morningside College campus for later broadcast on KCAU-TV.
