Morningside College staff member to give presentation on mountaineering

A Morningside College staff member will show photos of the North Cascades mountain range in Washington and offer mountaineering tips during a program at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave.

The program is free and open to the public.

Andy Heiser, executive director of information services at Morningside College, described mountaineering as the art and activity of climbing mountains. He said it is a cross between backpacking, rock climbing and orienteering.

“I started climbing when I was 12 years old and have been fortunate enough to climb in Washington state several times a year since 1981,” Heiser said. “Every trip is different; every mountain is unique; sometimes the experience is intensely social and sometimes it is intensely alone.”

Heiser said his program is designed for anyone interested in outdoor sports or mountain scenery.
