The Morningside College Volunteers in Mission Team will host a Southern-style buffet dinner from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave.
The public is invited to this event. Freewill offerings will be collected to help defray the travel costs of the mission team’s spring break trip to Lake Charles, La., to help with continuing recovery efforts following the 2005 hurricanes, Katrina and Rita, as well as Hurricane Ike in 2008, and to maintain the relationship with our sister city.
Menu items will include “Big Easy” gumbo, Creole jambalaya, old fashioned potato soup, red beans and rice, cornbread, biscuits, bread pudding, sweet potato pie, and beverages.
Morningside’s mission team includes staff and students. These volunteers will be working in Lake Charles from Feb. 27 through March 8 under the direction of the Rev. Kathy Olson, the college’s campus minister and director of church relations.
“Come and enjoy a delicious home-cooked Southern dinner and support our volunteers in mission,” said Olson.
