The display includes two series, each composed of four paintings, and a single painting called “The Red Clown.” In one series, “The White Smock,” images are based on rehearsals from the college’s theatre production of “Dancing at Lughnasa” in the spring of 2007. In the other series, “The Tragic Comedy,” the paintings show our intuitive responses to our perceptions of each other. All of the works on exhibit were painted by McGaffin in 2007.

McGaffin has worked as a professional artist for many years, exhibiting her paintings most recently in Beresford, S.D.; Sharon, Mass.; and Chicago Heights, Ill. Pieces of her artwork are included in the collections of the Sioux City Art Center, Morningside College and the University of South Dakota, and in many private collections. McGaffin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of South Dakota. She grew up in the Quad Cities on the Mississippi River and has been at home in Sioux City since 1984.
