Morningside College panel to address
best practices for completing employment applications

Morningside College will host the program “Employer Check-up: How/What You Do Now Could Affect Your Professional Future” on Wed., Feb. 7, at 11:45 a.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Avenue.

The free event, which is sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS) is open to the public.

During the program, a panel of experts will share their knowledge on various aspects of how employers screen potential candidates. Guest panelists will include Chris Nilles, work force advisor for Iowa Workforce Development; Susan Gross of the human resources department at Security National Bank; and Thomas Ritchie, on-line editor at the Sioux City Journal.

The panel will discuss use of several employment tests including typing tests, computer proficiency tests, criminal background checks, and credit checks; why employers utilize these methods; and how the results affect a candidate’s chances at receiving an offer of employment. The program will also include a discussion about how employers may search on-line blogs or Web sites such as Facebook or MySpace to gain information about a potential candidate.
