Editor’s Note: The following news release reflects a change from the originally scheduled dates the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will be offered. Service will no longer be provided on Wednesdays.
Morningside College students will participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program by providing free assistance in preparing basic income tax returns beginning Monday, Feb. 7, and continuing through Thursday, April 14.
VITA is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service. Trained student-volunteers will assist taxpayers with basic tax returns. The program is geared towards helping the elderly, handicapped, college students, and those with low incomes.
The free service will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in Room 102 of the Lincoln Center. No service will be provided from Feb. 28 to March 3 during the college’s Spring Break and from March 23 to March 28 during the college’s Easter Break.
Individuals should bring all W-2 forms, 1099 interest/dividend forms, proof of other income items, a picture ID, social security card or copy, and a copy of their 2003 federal and state income tax returns.
