“The Heart Called Paris Spring," a 1982 etching by American pop artist Jim Dine, is part of the Helen Levitt Art Collection at Morningside College. |
Todd Behrens, curator at the Sioux City Art Center, will discuss works in the Helen Levitt Art Collection at Morningside College during a presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in the Helen Levitt Art Gallery in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave.
The event is free and open to the public.
The presentation, called “Modern Artists in the Post-Modern World: Why the End of the Line Did Not Bring Extinction,” will focus on works in the Helen Levitt Art Collection created between 1974 and 1982. This was a time of great change in the world of art, yet many artists who had established themselves in the decades preceding this period were able to work successfully in the new climate. The presentation will examine the ways in which these artists adapted to the shift from Modernist to Post-Modernist ideas.
