Morningside College Choir schedules three-state tour of the Midwest

The Morningside College Choir will tour three Midwestern states over spring break, performing in six communities between Feb. 28 and March 6.

In Iowa, the choir will perform at Coin United Methodist Church, 205 Crook Street, in Coin on Monday, March 1; West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Avenue, in West Des Moines on Tuesday, March 2; Jefferson United Methodist Church, 307 South Wilson, in Jefferson on Wednesday, March 3; and Storm Lake United Methodist Church, 211 East Third Street, in Storm Lake on Thursday, March 4. All Iowa performances begin at 7 p.m.

In addition, the choir will perform at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 324 Jackson Street, in Papillion, Neb., and at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, in St. Philips Lutheran Church, 6180 Highway 65 NE, in Fridley, Minn.

All performances are free and open to the public.

Tim Watson, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Morningside, organized the tour and will direct the performances.

The Morningside College Choir is a select group of approximately 30 students. The choir has performed extensively in the United States, toured Eastern Europe in 2005 and performed in five Chinese cities in 2008.

Also performing during the concerts will be Morningside’s Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a group of nine a cappella singers who perform a mix of jazz, show and pop tunes.

Chuck Offenburger, former Des Moines Register reporter and columnist, writes about the choir's March 3 concert in Jefferson, Iowa.
