Vice president of X-Wires Communication to speak at Morningside College about entrepreneurial success

Carl Hirshman, vice president of X-Wires Broadband will present “X-Wires Communication: A Study in Entrepreneurship” on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 11:45 a.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Avenue, on the Morningside College campus.

The public is invited to this free presentation, which is sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS).

X-Wires Broadband is a high speed internet service provider (ISP) and information technology (IT) consulting company that originated as a classroom project from the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center at the University of Iowa. A group of students noticed a growth trend in the wireless industry and saw an opportunity.

After an initial round of investment, the company was incorporated in March 2002 with a focus on providing wireless Internet and hotspot access. The company is now a leading wireless ISP in eastern Iowa, expanding its solutions to include DSL Service and IT consulting. It provides service to locations at the University of Iowa and Coe College as well as to companies such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Carousel Motors, and Old Capital Mall. The company has offices in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
