Trombones de Costa Rica will join trombone ensembles from Morningside College, Augustana College, the University of South Dakota, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, in Eppley Auditorium.

Trombones de Costa Rica was the winner of the Costa Rican National Award of Music in 1997 and the City of Passau’s Special Prize in Germany in 1999. The group performs a repertoire of standard classical and Costa Rican music and is considered one of the most innovative and virtuosic brass ensembles on the American continent. The group was founded in 1991 and served as guest ensemble and faculty for the 2003 Brazilian and Latin American Trombone Festival, the 2001 and 2002 International Trombone Association Festivals, the 2003 Eastern Trombone Workshop, and the 2005 Big Twelve Trombone Conference.

The Siouxland Trombone Festival features students and faculty from Morningside, South Dakota, Augustana, Nebraska-Lincoln, and other area colleges along with high school trombonists from the Siouxland region.

Trombones de Costa Rica will conduct a master class both days of the festival. Thursday festival activities are for the colleges and Friday’s activities are for the high schools.
