The Morningside College Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Team will host a Southern-style buffet dinner from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Avenue. A freewill offering will be received that will be used to defray travel expenses for the VIM team’s mission trip to Picayune, Miss., during the college’s spring break.
The purpose of the trip, slated for March 3 to 12, is to help in recovery efforts after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The menu will include 15 items, such as the “Best Soup This Side of the Mississippi,” which is a black-eyed pea soup, “Big Easy” gumbo, “Shelley’s Southern Style Chicken and Dumplings,” fried dill pickles, bread pudding, and “Shoo Fly Pie.” Beverages will also be provided.
The twelve-member team will be led by Kathy Olson, campus pastor and director of Church Relations at Morningside, and includes faculty, staff, and students.
