Several Morningside College students will participate in Morningside’s Mock Trial Team for the spring 2005 semester.
The students include:
Sioux City: Zachary Hindman, Tamara Lostan, Casaday Nguyen.
Iowa: Jill Bohnker, Underwood; Aimee Corporon, Cedar Rapids; Emily Evans, Glenwood; Amanda Leu, Spencer.
Nebraska: Kathryn Kotlik, Bellevue.
Morningside’s Mock Trial Team reorganized in the fall of 2004 after nearly a ten-year absence. The team recently competed in its first national invitational tournament at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. The team will compete in a regional tournament in Topeka, Kan., on Friday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 19.
Faculty advisor for the Mock Trial Team is Dr. Lillian Lopez, associate professor of history and political science. Lawyer-coaches for the team are Alan E. Fredregill and Daniel B. Shuck, partners in the law firm of Heidman, Redmond, Fredregill, Patterson, Plaza, Dykstra, and Prahl, LLP in Sioux City.
The undergraduate mock trial program was first organized in 1985 at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. Its purpose is to give undergraduate students an opportunity to learn first hand about the work of trial attorneys, understand the judicial system, develop critical thinking, and enhance communication skills.
