Heather Reid, professor and chair of the philosophy department at Morningside College, recently had a book published, gave an invited lecture in Ontario, Canada and presented a paper in New York.
The book, titled “Introduction to the Philosophy of Sport,” examines the history, significance, and philosophical dimensions of sport. It incorporates specific concerns of today’s athletic world with a variety of philosophical issues. Rowman and Littlefield published the book. “Introduction to the Philosophy of Sport” is Reid’s sixth book.
In Ontario, Reid was invited to lecture at Trent University in Peterborough. The title of the lecture was “Athletics and Philosophy in Ancient Greece: Olympics, Ethics, Education and Politics.”
In New York, Reid presented her paper “Beautiful Virtue: Aristotle on Kalokagathia” at the annual meeting for the Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy at Fordham University Lincoln Center.
Reid began teaching at Morningside College in 1996. She received her doctorate in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
