The Youth Orchestras of the Leo Kucinski Academy of Music will present their winter concert on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. The Youth Orchestras feature musicians in three age groups, ranging from elementary school through college.
Siouxland Symphonette, conducted by Heather Schmedinghoff, a specialist in educating young string players, will perform an arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Dance of the Snow Maidens.”
Siouxland Philharmonia will perform arrangements of works by Copland, Vivaldi, and Leroy Anderson. This ensemble is conducted by Eleanor May-Patterson, a string teacher in the Sioux City Community Schools.
The Siouxland Youth Symphony will perform a piece by Georges Bizet, and “Bacchanale” from “Samson and Delilah” by Saint-Saёns. Joe Shufro, associate professor of music at Morningside College, has conducted the group since 1991.
