Morningside College will welcome more than 330 freshmen students to campus during four days of orientation activities scheduled from Friday, August 21, through Monday, August 24. Fall semester classes for all Morningside students begin Tuesday, August 25.
Freshmen will start moving into residence halls at 8 a.m. on August 21. Later that day, the new first-year students will be admitted to the class of 2013 during the college’s traditional matriculation ceremony at 3 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium. Morningside President John Reynders will welcome the students and their parents to the campus. A reception on the front lawn of Eppley will follow the matriculation ceremony.
Orientation activities on August 22 include a “Morningside Olympics” competition during which teams from the freshman class will engage in friendly competition on the Hilker Campus Mall and Bass Field starting at 3 p.m. A tailgate supper at 5:30 p.m. on the front lawn of Lewis Hall and a dance in Olsen Student Center at 9 p.m. will close out the day’s activities.
August 23 orientation events include a 10 a.m. worship service in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center followed by brunch in the Olsen Student Center. From 3 to 5 p.m. students will participate in the “Amazing Race,” an event designed to familiarize them with the campus. Students will gather for a “Welcome to Morningside” picnic with the president at 6 p.m. at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
“The Ultimate Road Trip” presentation on August 24 will provide the freshmen with tips and advice for making the most of college, both in and out of the classroom.
Other activities during the four-day orientation will include informational meetings for students and parents, choral auditions, residence hall meetings and distribution of notebook computers.
