Morningside College’s freshmen orientation

slated for Aug. 25-28

Morningside College will welcome freshman students to campus during their “Constructing Our Future” Orientation 2006, slated for Friday through Monday, Aug. 25-28.


Freshmen will begin moving into residence halls Friday at 8 a.m. and will be formally admitted to the class of 2010 during a matriculation ceremony to be held on Friday at 3 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Avenue. The ceremony will open with a faculty and student processional where the new first-year students will enter through a faculty gauntlet. Morningside College President John C. Reynders will welcome the students and their parents to campus. A reception will follow the ceremony on the lawn in front of Eppley Auditorium.

Megan Benson, a junior from Lawton, Iowa, is the student director for Orientation 2006.


Cassie Zimmerman, a junior from Oxford, Iowa, will be awarded a Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship from the Alpha Lambda Delta national academic honor society for first-year students during the matriculation ceremony.


The day will conclude with a dance on the “M” at 9 p.m. outside Roadman Hall, 3600 Peters Ave.


Freshmen will pick up their notebook computers from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday. At 5 p.m., students will be transported to Lewis Bowl in Sioux City to enjoy a tailgate supper before attending a Sioux City Explorers baseball game and fireworks at Lewis and Clark Park.


An all-campus worship service will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. on the “M,” followed by a brunch in the main dining room of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Ave. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. students will participate in the “Amazing Race,” an event designed to familiarize students with the campus. Students will gather for a welcome picnic with the president on Sunday at 6 p.m., at Elwood Olsen Stadium. The day will conclude with a movie in Buck’s Snack Bar in the Olsen Student Center.


On Monday, students will purchase books and attend the presentation “The Ultimate Road Trip” on how to make the most of the college experience. The day will conclude with a dance featuring the live band “CATCHpenny” sponsored by the Morningside Activities Council (MAC) at 5:30 p.m. on the “M” followed by root beer floats, courtesy of Campus Ministries and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.


Other activities will include informational meetings for students and parents, choral auditions, and residence hall meetings with residence life staff and orientation student assistants.
