Cathee Phillips, formerly director of Public Relations at Morningside College, has been promoted to serve as director of external relations, effective August 1. The majority of her new duties will involve grant research, grant proposal writing, and grant reporting. She will also oversee the college’s community and public relations efforts.
Phillips came to Morningside in 1999 as a writer in the office of Public Relations. She was promoted to communications team leader in 2000 and to director of Public Relations in 2002. She became editor of the college’s bi-annual alumni magazine, The Morningsider, in the fall of 2000 and had served as the editor for the college’s monthly e-newsletter, On the Move, since its inception in 2004.
She was selected as the college’s first “Staff Employee of the Year” in 2003 and, in conjunction with that award, was a recipient of Morningside’s Thomas S. Thompson Staff Excellence Award. She has served as chair of the college’s Marketing Committee and as a member of several other college committees.
She developed a market research method, which involves training college students to conduct surveys, that has been featured in Currents, the national publication of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
Phillips currently serves as treasurer of the Greater Sioux City Press Club and is a member of Quota International, Inc. of Sioux City.
Phillips, a 1999 graduate of Morningside College, holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish, with a minor in mass communication.
