Demi DunnDemi Dunn, a Morningside College student from Cherokee, Iowa, was one of five students in the nation to be awarded a $6,000 Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship this year from the National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta.

Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first-year college and university students. Since its inception in 1924, the national honor society has grown to find homes on more than 275 campuses throughout the United States.

Each year, National Alpha Lambda Delta awards at least 35 Trow scholarships to outstanding students across the country. Selection is based on academic records, participation in Alpha Lambda Delta activities, applicant statements, and campus and community activities.

For the 2012 competition, the national selection committee reviewed 103 applications submitted by local chapters. The scholarships range from $1,000 to $6,000. Dunn was among the five students to receive the top scholarship.

Dunn is the daughter of Douglas and Deborah Dunn of Cherokee, Iowa. She is a graduate of Washington High School. Her major at Morningside is advertising.

Chapter advisors for Alpha Lambda Delta are Marty Knepper, professor and chair of English, and Terri Curry, vice president for student life and enrollment.
