Students enjoy a picnic during the 2011 freshman orientation |
Morningside College will welcome new freshman students to campus during orientation activities scheduled from Saturday, August 18, through Tuesday, August 21. Fall semester classes for all Morningside students begin Wednesday, August 22.
Freshmen will move into residence halls from 8 a.m. to noon on August 18. Other events scheduled during the day include an orientation lunch in the Olsen Student Center, welcomes from Morningside College President John Reynders and Robin Reynders, distribution of notebook computers, a barbecue dinner in Olsen Student Center, and a comedy variety game show performance in Eppley Auditorium.
According to Shari Benson, Morningside’s director of first-year students, the orientation schedule is designed to help students make the transition to college life.
“We have planned activities that make it easier for Morningside’s Class of 2016 to get better acquainted with each other and our campus,” Benson said. “By the end of orientation, the freshmen will be ready to successfully start their first year of classes at Morningside.”
Events scheduled for Sunday, August 19, include a worship service in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center, brunch in the Olsen Student Center, a “Morningside Olympics” competition and a “Welcome to Morningside” dinner in the Olsen Student Center.
Highlights for Monday, August 20, include an academic majors extravaganza, an activities fair, a convocation in Eppley Auditorium and an “Amazing Race-Morningside Style” competition.
On Tuesday, August 21, students will meet in assigned classrooms for Passport, a semester-long course required for all first-year students at Morningside.
