Pianist Eugenio Zapata will perform his multimedia show “Fantasies & Illusions” with Sioux City native Steffani Jiroux at Morningside College at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Ave.
Jiroux, a student at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., will be dancing in the show.
Zapata’s multimedia performances explore themes such as gender, race, religion, culture, war and social justice. The shows include music, dance, theatre, video, acting, photography, poetry and animation.
A native of Colombia, South America, Zapata studied piano at Andes University in Bogota, Colombia, and at Pennsylvania State University before earning his doctorate from Texas Tech University. In Texas, he was able to integrate his training in music, dance, theatre and visual arts.
Zapata was an assistant professor of music at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D., for five years. Now he is an independent performing artist and an adjunct professor at Mount Marty. In June, he received favorable reviews during a master class with Yoheved Kaplinsky, chair of piano studies at Juilliard.
Zapata will be performing “Fantasies and Illusions” in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas and New York.
The show at Morningside College is free and open to the public.
