The summer 2012 Aerospace Education Classes at Morningside College are accepting registrations for the program, which begins in June for students who have completed second through sixth grades.
“Space Cities” is designed for students who have completed second and third grades or who have never taken Space Cities before. The class is scheduled June 11 through 15 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Students will design a space station using recycled materials and participate in experiments dealing with gravity, weightlessness, “space mud” and astronaut foods.
“Space Exploration” classes are scheduled for June 18 through 22 for students who have completed grades four through six or who have completed the “Space Cities” class from last year’s summer program. The sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Students in “Space Exploration” will investigate and experiment with scientific principles related to air transportation, rocketry, weather, layers of the atmosphere, space suit technology, satellites and space stations.
Aerospace Education Classes are organized and taught on the Morningside campus by Connie Richardson Smith, a Sioux City educator and consultant, and Mary Richardson Tester, an educator from Pawleys Island, S.C.
