Quiz Bowl teams from eight high schools in Iowa and Nebraska move on to second-round competition in the Morningside College Quiz Bowl Tournament after scoring victories during eight weeks of first-round games.
The four contests that are part of the second round of competition will air on KCAU-TV in Sioux City beginning April 17 at 11 a.m.
The Quiz Bowl teams that have qualified for the second-round competitions and the scheduled broadcast dates are: Maple Valley Anthon-Oto and Unity Christian – April 17; LeMars and Norfolk – April 17 (11:30 a.m. broadcast); Westwood and Sergeant Bluff-Luton – April 24; Sioux City North and West Point Beemer – May 1.
The four winning teams from the second-round competitions will move on to play semi-final contests. Two weeks of semi-final competition will lead to the championship game that will be broadcast on May 22.
Each 30-minute Quiz Bowl broadcast on KCAU-TV features two teams vying for points by correctly answering questions that range over the entire spectrum of a high school curriculum and current events. Julie Eickhoff of McCook Lake, S.D., serves as the on-air host and moderator for the broadcast competitions. Eickhoff, who is a licensed real estate broker with Pro-Link Realty in Sioux City, also has worked in education, banking and broadcasting in the Sioux City area.
Sixteen schools won their way to the televised first-round competition after taking part in a preliminary tournament Jan. 15 on the Morningside College campus. The preliminary tournament involved Quiz Bowl teams from 22 high schools.
All of the broadcast Quiz Bowl contests are taped in television studios on the Morningside College campus.
