The musical duo Christopher Cramer, classical guitarist, and Yi-Lan (Elaine) Niu, soprano, will present a guest recital sponsored by the Morningside College Music Department at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave.
The recital is free and open to the public.
The duo will play both sacred and secular pieces including compositions by Heinrich Schutz and Joaquin Rodrigo. The duo’s performance will also include newly composed works by Alexander Nohai-Seaman.
Classical guitarist Christopher Cramer has performed in the United States, Canada and Asia. In addition to performing as a solo recitalist and as a soloist with orchestra, Cramer is an active chamber musician collaborating with various instrumentalists and singers. Cramer serves on the faculty at Beloit College in Beloit, Wis., where he teaches studio guitar lessons and directs the guitar ensemble program.
Niu currently serves as an assistant professor of music at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis. She has received several awards and scholarships, including the Joyce and William Wartmann Scholarship, the University of Wisconsin Madison Opera Props Award, and scholarships to the Hot Springs Music Festival, the Madison Early Music Festival, and the Vancouver Early Music Festival. Niu is a regularly featured soloist in the United States and Asia.
