Morningside College Choir to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of May tour

The Morningside College Choir and the Morningside College Choral Union will tour three states in May, with the culmination being a performance on the main stage of Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The choirs, in conjunction with participating Morningside College alumni, members of the Shrine Chanters of Sioux City, and members of the Siouxland Master Chorale, will perform at Carnegie Hall at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21. Tickets for that concert are on sale through the Carnegie Hall Box Office.

All of the other performances during the choir tour are free and open to the public.

The college choir and choral union will perform at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 980 Park Ave., in New York City at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20.

In Illinois, the Morningside choirs will perform at Batavia United Methodist Church, 8 Batavia Ave., in Batavia on Tuesday, May 17, and at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2477 W. Washington St., in Springfield on Monday, May 23. Both performances begin at 7 p.m.

In Ohio, the choirs will perform at Christ United Methodist Church, 380 Mineola Ave., in Akron on Wednesday, May 18, and at Seville United Methodist Church, 74 W. Main St., in Seville on Sunday, May 22. Both of these performances begin at 7 p.m. as well.

Tim Watson, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Morningside, organized the tour and will direct the performances.

The Morningside College Choir has performed extensively in the United States, toured Eastern Europe in 2005 and performed in five Chinese cities in 2008. Also performing during the concerts will be Morningside’s Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a group of a cappella singers who perform a mix of jazz, show and pop tunes.
